Cocktails in movies & series

This post is not directly relevant to the English bartending scene, but I still its kind of funny to see / know. A while ago i was bored, and I saw how the girls in “Sex and the City” got some Cosmopolitans and began to think about how often and if, what drinks are being used in films and series?
At first glance it seems irrelevant for the English bartender environment, but one must remember that while a drink is very good, the guests has to know it before they will order one, and I would say that the sale of Cosmopalitan increased markedly during “Sex and the City” wave.

Of course there are hundreds of examples, but here is a small draft about the different drinks I came up with in movies and series:

  • Sex and the City: Cosmopolitan, Manhattan
  • Cocktail: Red Eye (And many more)
  • Star Trek (Original Serie): Mint Julep
  • Clockwork Orange: Moloko Plus
  • James Bond Golfinger: Mint Julep
  • Casino Royal: The Vesper
  • Diverse andre James Bonds: Martini, vodka Martini
  • Gone with the Wind: Planters Punch
  • The Big Lebowski: White Russian
  • Some Like It Hot: Whiskey Sour
  • Death Proof: Green Chartreuse
  • Jackie Brown: Screwdriver
  • Casablanca: French 75, Champagner Cocktail
  • Saturday night fever: Seven & Seven
  • The Blues Brothers: Orange Whip
  • Scrubs: Appletini
  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s: Zombie
  • The Seven Year Itch: Whiskey Sour
  • The girl can’t help it: Bloody Mary
  • Hitch – The Date Doctor : Grey Goose Martini
  • Mad Men: Martini, Gibson, Mint Julep, Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Stinger, Blue, Hawaiian, Brandy Alexander,
  • Gimlet, Greyhound, Moscow Mule
  • Meet the Fokker’s: Tom Collins

at Brandsandfilms.com you can see how Product Placement has influenced the cocktail culture as we know it, how a single brand together with a drink, can have so big an impact on our choice of cocktail or product. Link
