This weekend the new champion of the Danish championship in Freestyle mixology was found. The event took place at the famous cocktailbar Fidel’s, in Copenhagen. 14 bartenders from around the country came to compete against each other in the skills, creativity and innovation of bartending.
The participants were each given a “Mistory Box”, which was filled with unknown products. From this, they had 20 minutes to come up with a potential winner cocktail.
After the 20 minutes they, had to go on stage and show the audience which cocktail they had created. When all participants have had their chance, the 4 bartenders with the highest score, would go into the finals.
This time they had to choose one bottle among 10 “gourmet” spirits as their base spirit, and then they were given a new mistory box. Again, they had 20 minutes to prepare. But this time in front of the excited crowd.
The winner was the English-born bartender Elliott H, Jayes from Fugu cocktailbar on Gammel Strand, with his recipe:
- 4 blueberries
- 4 basil leaves
- 2 Kumquat
- 3 cl lemon juice
- 3 cl Routin sugar syrup
- 4 cl Eldorado 12 years’ rum

Besides this, the three finalists were surprised with another “special” prize, which was not announced in advance. All of the three finalist would get a trip to France, where they would get the chance to see the production of 1883 Routin syrup, which is used across the country by several bars, cafés and more.
