Litchi (love fruit) have been grown in southern China for over 2000 years.
One of the ancient Chinese emperors, who were very happy with his lady, Lee Chee, planted this fruit to please her there nose. And the fruit was named after her.
It is a reddish brown berry with a leathery, bumpy uneven surface. Fruit shell is removed and the surrounding glassy white flesh and seeds.
A freshly-picked lychee has a beautiful reddish color, which quickly becomes brownish. It has no significance for fruit quality.

Choose fruits that are bright in color and without stains and holes. If the fruit is sour or bitter, it is not ripe and ripening stops when it is harvested.
